Manuscriptology and Sanskritic text editing: A two-week international workshop

A two-week international Workshop on Manuscriptology and Sanskritic Text Editing is being organised by Jadavpur University, Kolkata; the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies; Indira Gandhi National Centre for The Arts, National Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi: and Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan.

 
The workshop will take place from 10–22 August 2009 at at Jadavpur University.
 
Practical training will be given at the archives of Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan; Sanskrita Sahitya Parisat, Kolkata; The Asiatic Society, Kolkata; and School of Vedic studies, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
 
This workshop is intended to help scholars interested in studying original texts in Sanskrit and Bengali in areas including Veda, Vedanga, Ayurveda, Nyaya, Vaishesika, Sankhya, Patanjala Yoga, Purva Mimamsa, Vedanta, Vyakarana, Purana, and Alamkara.
 
Topics include
  • conservation, preservation, and handling manuscripts
  • preparation of handlist
  • preparation of descriptive catalogue
  • history of manuscripts and paleography
  • comparative paleography
  • methodology of text editing
  • modern library science and manuscriptology
  • using catalogus catalogorum
  • relevance of manuscriptology in modern education system
  • methodology of transcription.
Postgradutates from any discipline are welcome to apply. Partcipants will be awarded certificates jointly from Jadavpur University; Visva Bharati University; National Mission for Manuscripts; Indira Gandhi National Centre for The Arts; and Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
