Nehru Centre Event: Ramayana and Mahabharata: Ancient Tales with a Contemporary Twist
Nehru Centre Event
Monday, 27 June 2011 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm
8 South Audley Street
London, W1K 1HF
A talk by Dr Nicholas Sutton of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies
The epic stories of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are widely known both in India and in the Western world, due in part to their popularisation through the visual media. What is less widely understood, however, is the underlying message that these great works seek to convey particularly in relation to duty, morality and social responsibility. In this talk we will seek to go beyond the central narratives and consider the underlying message of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, reflecting upon the contribution their insights can make to the contemporary world.
